Review: Conrad Hong Kong

At the end of February, even though the cherry blossoms had begun to bloom early in London, there were still days when I couldn’t do without my coat. In Hong Kong, the azaleas were already in full bloom. Chinese New Year celebrations were a few weeks ago, and the city was still decked out in New Year’s decorations.

I was unable to come to Hong Kong due to the pandemic, so my last stay was 5 years ago at the Conrad Hong Kong. I was very happy to be able to book a stay there this time too. To reach the hotel from the airport, transfer to the subway at Hong Kong Station, get off at Admiralty Station, and walk through Pacific Place, a commercial facility directly connected to the hotel. The elegant scent in the lobby welcomed us with a sense of nostalgia.

Check-in and Cocktail Time

After checking in, I entered the room. I took an overnight flight from London, so didn’t get much sleep; I fought the urge to lie down by taking a break in the executive lounge on the 59th floor.

From here you can see Victoria Harbor, with the cluster of skyscrapers in Central in the foreground. The view of Kowloon that can be seen through the gaps is unique to Hong Kong, and the cocktail hour coincides with the time that dusk descends on the city and the buildings begin to sparkle through the darkness, drawing you in. While enjoying small dishes, we toasted with Prosecco served by the waiter.

Breakfast

Due to the time difference, I woke up in the middle of the night, but I thought it was pointless to force myself to go back to sleep, so I decided to get up early and head to the breakfast venue. Breakfast in Hong Kong is porridge with fried bread and chow mein. This is quite a lot on its own, but while I’m sipping on some Pu’er tea, I’m also reaching for some more dim sum. Coming from UK, I don’t think there’s any need to try the English breakfast here, but the sausages and other things definitely look more delicious than the ones you see in the UK!

Executive Lounge

This is a Hong Kong breakfast. I enjoyed it until I was full, but since I still had time, I decided to take a break in the lounge. What surprised me at Conrad Hong Kong was that the selection of products displayed in the lounge was almost the same as the one in the breakfast room (in most cases, lounges have a smaller selection). What was even more surprising was that the danish was heated in the oven at just the right temperature. Although I called it a break, I ended up having some danishes and fruit for dessert.

In Hong Kong, there are so many delicious foods to eat when you go out on the town, which is something I really look forward to, but thanks to the Diamond benefits, I can enjoy authentic Hong Kong-style cuisine while relaxing at the hotel every morning and evening. When you receive such benefits, you want to maintain the same status of membership next year as well!

Useful information

I think many people secretly enjoy collecting Conrad Bear as a hobby. The bear at Conrad Hong Kong was a little bigger than the one we had last time. In conjunction with the Lunar New Year, the shop in the basement was selling a festive dragon outfit version for a limited time in honor of the Year of the Dragon.
