Hotel Review: Hilton Garden Inn Hong Kong Mongkok – From Airport Access to Rooms and Breakfast
For my recent trip back to Asia, I flew with Cathay Pacific — my current favourite airline. On my way back to London, I made a short stopover in Hong Kong and stayed for one night. My last visit to Hong Kong was in 2024, when I stayed at the Conrad Hong Kong (hotel review here). This time, I finally booked the DoubleTree by Hilton Hong Kong Mongkok, a hotel I had been curious about for some time but never had the chance to try. From the airport, I took the Airport Express to Kowloon Station, which is the most convenient first step into the city.
In this post, I’ll share my experience at the Hilton Garden Inn Hong Kong Mongkok with photos — including access from the airport, room details, and breakfast. I hope it helps you choose the right hotel for your next stay in Hong Kong.

How to Get to the Hilton Garden Inn Hong Kong Mongkok
The easiest way to get from Hong Kong International Airport to the Hilton Garden Inn Hong Kong Mongkok is to take the Airport Express to Kowloon Station and then transfer to a taxi. The Airport Express offers a discounted return ticket, so when buying your ticket at the airport, I recommend choosing the round-trip option (valid for 30 days). As of July 2025, a one-way fare is HKD 115, but the return ticket costs HKD 195.
From Kowloon Station, take a taxi. Without traffic, it takes around 10 minutes to reach the hotel.。
By the way, if you get an Octopus Card (a prepaid IC transport card similar to JR East’s Suica), the Airport Express fare becomes HKD 105 instead of 115, and you can transfer from the Airport Express to the MTR without paying an additional fare. However, there is no convenient MTR route from Kowloon Station to the hotel.
For that reason, another option is to get off the Airport Express one stop earlier at Tsing Yi Station and transfer to the MTR.
From the Tung Chung Line at Tsing Yi Station, go to Lai King Station, then transfer to the Tsuen Wan Line and continue to Mong Kok Station. From there, it’s about a 10-minute walk to the hotel. If you have a lot of luggage, however, the transfers and the walk from the station can be inconvenient, so taking a taxi from Kowloon Station is likely the easiest option.

Due to a delay on my Cathay Pacific flight from Chubu Centrair Airport, I arrived in Hong Kong later than planned. From Kowloon Station, the taxi ride to the hotel took just under 15 minutes, passing by night markets filled with fruit stalls and flower vendors. I had heard that the delay was caused by heavy rain in Hong Kong, and the wet roads seemed to confirm that.

Mongkok is a district full of classic Hong Kong atmosphere. If you enjoy shopping, there’s the Ladies’ Market, Fa Yuen Street Market, and the electronics streets. The area is also popular among food lovers, with many eateries staying open late into the night.
Using the MTR, it’s easy to reach Tsim Sha Tsui or Central, and the M+ Museum—which opened in Kowloon in 2021—is also just a short ride away.。

I’m preparing separate posts about the restaurants, cafés, and museums I visited during my stay in Mongkok (coming soon).
While watching the scenery from the taxi window, I soon arrived at the hotel.

Room Review | King Deluxe Harbour View Room
I had originally booked a King Guest Room, but thanks to my Diamond status, I was upgraded to a King Deluxe Harbour View Room on the 20th floor.

Buildings in Hong Kong often have high ceilings, and the Hilton Garden Inn Hong Kong Mongkok is no exception. The high ceiling gives the room a more spacious, airy feel, reducing any sense of being cramped.

The bathroom was clean and pleasant as well. Although it only had a shower, that’s more than enough in a subtropical climate like Hong Kong.。

One thing I noticed in the bathroom was the amenities. They were different from the “Crabtree & Evelyn” products commonly found at other Hilton-branded hotels. Instead, they offered “Peter Thomas Roth” — which may bring back memories for many Hilton regulars. I actually saw the same amenities when I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Kyoto Shijo Karasuma (full review here).

It was already past 11 p.m., but since I was in Hong Kong, I decided to head out in search of my favourite wonton noodles.

Breakfast | Dim Sum & Pu’er Tea for a Hong Kong–Style Morning
Hotel breakfasts in Hong Kong are something to look forward to. There may not be Japanese dishes, but both Cantonese and Western options are plentiful. Perhaps thanks to the city’s British colonial past, the pastries are consistently good, and even items like sausages often feel nicely adapted to the Hong Kong palate. (To be honest, although I live in the UK, I’m not particularly drawn to full English breakfasts—especially the sausages served at many hotels in Britain.)

The selection of dim sum is also impressive, and with a cup of Pu’er tea in hand, you can enjoy a relaxed yum cha–style breakfast from early in the morning.

Hotel Facilities | Pool, Gym & Self-Service Laundry
The Hilton Garden Inn Hong Kong Mongkok actually has a rooftop pool. I didn’t have time to use it on this trip, but taking a dip while surrounded by tall buildings feels very “Hong Kong,” doesn’t it?

The hotel also has a gym, so you can get some exercise between work or sightseeing. Whenever I’m in Hong Kong, I somehow end up eating nonstop, so swimming or jogging to work up an appetite becomes quite important.

Another convenience for longer stays is the laundry room. Drum-type washing machines can be a bit tricky if you’re not used to them, but there’s usually an instruction sheet available, so you just follow the steps and you’re fine.

Hilton Honors Diamond Benefits
At check-in, I received some snacks and drinks as a Diamond member. I was surprised to see Calbee potato chips – you can get them in Hong Kong too. It was also amusing to find bits of Japanese written on the packaging.

Useful Information | How to Pay for Hong Kong Taxis
Until recently, taxis in Hong Kong only accepted cash, but they have finally started supporting card payments. When I stayed in July 2025, however, they were still cash only, so I had to walk quite a bit through the shopping mall connected to Kowloon Station to find an ATM.
Conclusion | A Great Choice for Experiencing the Energy of Mongkok
I’ve been to Hong Kong many times, and in the past I’ve stayed at places like the Conrad Hong Kong (hotel review here) and The Peninsula. Staying at luxury hotels is always wonderful, of course, but exploring the city, seeing everyday life, and eating alongside locals is also one of the greatest joys of travel. The Hilton Garden Inn Hong Kong Mongkok is perfect if you want to feel the energy and atmosphere of Hong Kong up close. It’s definitely a hotel worth considering for your next visit.
