Hilton Tokyo Review: Diamond Upgrade, Executive Lounge & Suite Stay Experience

Hilton Tokyo is an excellent choice for Hilton Honors members—especially Diamonds—thanks to its reliable suite upgrades, a strong Executive Lounge, and a convenient location in the heart of Nishi-Shinjuku. Whether you’re visiting for sightseeing or returning home for a short trip, the hotel offers comfort, convenience, and a touch of Japanese hospitality.

When summer time switches to winter time at the end of October, the sun begins to set earlier in London and some days already require heating, making you feel the beginning of winter. Meanwhile, autumn is in full swing in Japan in November, which makes it the perfect season to return for a short visit.

This year, I booked a flight with Cathay Pacific and arrived at Haneda Airport Terminal 3 after 9 p.m. via Hong Kong. It took 19 hours from the moment I left London.

How to Get to Hilton Tokyo

From Haneda Airport

When I checked in my luggage at Heathrow Airport, I was given a priority tag, so I was able to receive my luggage at Haneda Airport without having to wait. Thanks to this, I was able to board the last limousine bus at 21:50, and I really felt glad that I was a Oneworld elite member (Sapphire).

Another thing you can do to save time is to prepare your customs declaration. Previously, forms were distributed on the plane, but since electronic declarations became available, they no longer seem to be distributed.

Therefore, while waiting for my checked luggage, I had to fill out the form in a hurry. I need to prepare so that I can declare electronically next time. The bus passed through Terminal 1 and 2 and arrived at the Hilton Shinjuku in about an hour.

If you don’t have large luggage like a suitcase, it is also convenient to use the train or subway to get to the hotel.

From Shinjuku Station

A free shuttle bus to the Hilton Tokyo runs from the west exit of Shinjuku Station every 20 minutes. You can bring your suitcase on the bus. For detailed timetables, please check the official Hilton Tokyo website.

By subway

Get off at Nishi-Shinjuku Station on the Marunouchi Line, or at Tochomae Station on the Oedo Line. Follow the signs to the underground passage and go through the underground shopping mall, Hiltopia, which will take you directly to the hotel.

Hilton Tokyo Location in Nishi-Shinjuku

Located in Nishi-Shinjuku, the business district of Shinjuku, Hilton Tokyo is an ideal location for business use as well as sightseeing. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, which has a popular observation deck, is right in front of the hotel. If you walk a little further, you will find Golden Gai and Kabukicho, which have recently become popular with foreign tourists, and Shinjuku Gyoen, an oasis in the city, is within walking distance. The department stores around Shinjuku Station are also nearby, making it convenient for shopping.

Suite Room Review: Space, Amenities & Diamond Member Perks

This time, there were three adults in our group, so we could have booked two rooms separately, but since we had a great time staying in a suite when we went to Venice, Italy in 2023, we decided to go ahead and book a suite this time as well.

The room we were given was very large, with a spacious living room and separate bedroom. There was a sofa and a desk that could be used for work in the living room, and even though we had a third bed added, there was still plenty of space.

When we checked in, we were told, “The suite room is already the highest level of room so we cannot upgrade any further, but how about wine or chocolate instead?” We happily decided to have wine. In addition, we were free to drink drinks from the minibar (beer, cola, etc.).

After a while, the room service staff appeared with the small bottle of white wine in an ice bucket with three glasses. We were grateful for our safe arrival in Tokyo and toasted to good luck for the journey that was about to begin.

As expected of a Japanese hotel, the bathroom had a washing area and a bathtub, so we were able to soothe the fatigue of our trip. As I wrote in the “Fitness and Relaxation” section, there was also a sauna and a bath on the 5th floor, where we could relax and soak in the hot water, so we used them several times during our stay.

Nishi-Shinjuku is a district of Tokyo full of modern high-rise buildings, but the guest rooms are decorated to have a Japanese atmosphere, with shoji and fusuma screens in the windows, lighting reminiscent of andon lanterns, and a minibar with a beautiful lacquer finish, making them very authentic. In addition, yukata are available, so I hope that overseas guests will wear them and feel the Japanese atmosphere.

Hilton Tokyo Breakfast Review

Extensive Selection at the 1st-Floor Buffet

The Marble Lounge, where breakfast is served, is on the ground floor, but if you have access to the lounge on the 37th floor, you can also have breakfast in the Executive Lounge.

I woke up early due to jet lag, so I went down to the ground floor around 7:00, and found that many people were already eating. Since it’s in Shinjuku, many people are likely to be using the hotel for work, so 7:00 is certainly not too early.

What was surprising was that there were many people who looked like tourists at that time of the day also.

The breakfast venue on the ground floor is a buffet with a wide variety of food; a broad array of Japanese, Western, and Chinese food is available. Since I was staying at a Japanese hotel, I decided to have Japanese food. It’s been a long time since I’ve had grilled fish and dried daikon radish. Usually, if I have room in my stomach, I finish with a pastry or something small, but I was full on this day, so I decided not to.

It seems that even if you are not a guest, you can use the restaurant just for breakfast, so it would be nice to have a leisurely brunch with someone you haven’t seen in a while. There are also morning newspapers available, so you can quickly catch up on what’s happening before work.

Stunning High-Floor Views: Breakfast at the Executive Lounge

The next morning, we decided to change locations and eat in the lounge. From the large windows, we could see the skyscrapers of Shinjuku lit up by the morning sun, reminding us that we were in the city centre. As on the ground floor, it was a buffet, but there were menus on each table, and we could order special dishes from there, so please try them. I ordered avocado toast.

Both venues are recommended, but if you have access to the lounge, I recommend you try breakfast in the lounge at least once. Having breakfast on a high floor in a brighter and more relaxed atmosphere than the ground floor breakfast venue is sure to be a good memory of your stay at the hotel.

Executive Lounge Review: Food, Drinks & View from 37F

The Executive Lounge is located on the 37th floor of the hotel and is available from morning to night. You can check the opening hours on the official website. During my stay, I used it for breakfast and cocktail time, as well as for a quick change of pace and for tea breaks.

I think many people look forward to cocktail time in the lounge when staying at a hotel. Since I became a Diamond member, I have made it a habit to check whether there is a lounge when making a hotel reservation. What is the Hilton Tokyo lounge like?

Upon entering the lounge, I was guided to a newly created room, separate from the main zone where I was during breakfast and during the day. In addition to wine, whisky, gin, liqueur, and plum wine, various types of alcohol are provided, as well as light snacks. Cocktail time while looking at the skyscrapers of Shinjuku at night while reminiscing about the events of the day was also very good.

After filling my stomach lightly, I moved to an izakaya in Nishi-Shinjuku. My workplace when I worked in Japan was in this area, so I was reminded of those times fondly.

Fitness, Pool & Bath Facilities at Hilton Tokyo

The hotel is well-equipped with facilities perfect for relaxing during your stay. When you get off the elevator on the fifth floor, you will see an indoor gym that is open 24 hours a day. There is also an indoor heated pool at the back of the gym, which is perfect for a light workout to get rid of jet lag. I didn’t use it, but it seems they also offer massages if you want to relieve the fatigue of a long journey.

At the back of the changing room, there is a bath and sauna. It is a good size, and the temperature of the water is just right, so even if you can’t go to the hot springs, you can still relax in the hotel bath.

There is also a tennis court outdoors. By the way, I saw something like a ball net above the hotel entrance, but I wonder if it was for the tennis court. For the latest information on opening hours etc., please see the official website.

Useful Tips for Staying at Hilton Tokyo

There is a shuttle bus between the west exit of Shinjuku Station and the hotel. It is close to Nishi-Shinjuku Station and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, but it is surprisingly far to walk to Shinjuku Station. If you use the shuttle bus, you can have your shopping bags delivered to the hotel, so it is much easier.

I also found out later that they also rent bicycles. November is a good time of year. Even though I have been to Shinjuku many times, I have never cycled before. I will definitely use it next time if I have the chance.
