Review: Hampton by Hilton Barcelona Fira Gran Via
Since my flight from Barcelona Airport was early in the morning, I decided to stay at the Hampton by Hilton Barcelona Fira Gran Via, which was the closest hotel to the airport.
Access
Although it is a little far from the main tourist sites in Barcelona, the transportation is surprisingly convenient.
In particular, from Barcelona El Prat Airport to the hotel, it takes about 15 minutes by taxi, or about 30 minutes by subway on the L9 Sud (South Line), to arrive at the nearest subway station, Europa-Fira Station. From there, it is about a 10-minute walk to the hotel.
Also, if you arrive in Barcelona by rail, it is about 5 kilometers from Barcelona Sants Station, which is used by many people. There is no direct subway, so it is a bit of a detour, but if you are in a hurry or have a lot of luggage, it is fine to take a taxi. The hotel is located exactly halfway between the airport and Sants Station.
Location and Room
The hotel is close to the Fira Gran Via exhibition centre, so it is basically the best location for exhibition participants.
But even if you are visiting central Barcelona for sightseeing, it is convenient because the public transportation system is good, although it takes a bit of time to get there from the suburbs.
The rooms are simple and functional. The room felt a little small compared to the Hilton, but it was equipped with all the necessary facilities and had a comfortable space. The bright and modern interior, especially the bathroom, was new and very clean, which will help to relieve any fatigue after a long day of sightseeing or work.
There was also a desk which was enough for some short work tasks.
Unfortunately, the Hampton brand does not have an executive lounge, but the lobby has sofas in the common area where you can chat and take a break. There was also a place to sit and eat the snacks and drinks you ordered, making it a comfortable space to take a break between going out.
Breakfast
At other Hilton hotels, Gold and Diamond members get free breakfast. However, Hampton hotels include a free breakfast for everyone.
They have bread, cereal, fruit, yogurt, and hot dishes (scrambled eggs, sausages, etc.), so it’s very satisfying. Of course, there was coffee, tea, and orange juice.
Useful information
Hotel prices seem to be rising every year in Barcelona. Airfares remain high, and the tourist tax rate will increase from October 2024, so many people are looking to keep their accommodation costs down as much as possible.
Hampton is a brand that offers relatively low prices among the Hilton chain. It takes a little time to get to the tourist attractions, but it is surprisingly convenient as there is a subway station nearby.
At the shopping mall “Gran Via 2” near the hotel, the French supermarket “Carrefour” is convenient not only for souvenirs but also small shopping.
I would also recommended this hotel for those who are considering travelling by train from Barcelona Airport or Sants Station to nearby tourist spots. There are frequent flights from Barcelona Airport to Mallorca, and you can take the Spanish high-speed train AVE to the Dali Museum in Figueres and the recently popular Girona for a day trip.
