Tasted local food in Mercato Testaccio, Rome｜ローマ、テスタッチョ市場で地元の味覚を堪能

Speaking of the pleasures of travelling in Italy and the conversation quickly turns to food! 

Although it is a little far from the Rome Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria, we visited Testaccio Market, which is reputed for its abundant local ingredients.

The market is slightly off the main tourist trail in Rome, which only adds to its appeal and charm. It will arouse your curiosity about what ingredients are sold and how.

As it is a market, fresh foods such as vegetables, fruits, and dairy products are available. Eggplants, tomatoes and zucchini are all colourful and eye-catching. In addition to light meals such as pizza, there are also shops where you can drink wine. The real pleasure of the market is being able to stop by any stall that takes your fancy and sample its delights.

You can buy small quantities of burrata, zucchini flowers, and other items that are difficult to find in Japan, so take the plunge and give them a try!

宿泊先のローマ・カバリエリ・ウォルドーフ・アストリアから少し離れていますが、地元の食材が豊富に揃うことで評判のテスタッチォ市場を訪れてみました。

ローマのなかでも観光客が大挙して訪れる地区から外れていますが、こういう所にこそ観光化されていない本来の魅力があるのは、日本同様。どんな食材がどんな風に売られているのでしょうか、好奇心が掻き立てられます。

市場というだけあって、野菜や果物、乳製品など生鮮食品は新鮮そのもの。茄子もトマトもズッキーニも、色鮮やかで目が惹きつけられます。

場内にはピザのような軽食だけでなく、ワインなどのお酒を飲めるお店もあって、興味の赴くまま好きなものをよりどりみどり試せるのが市場の醍醐味です。

ブラータ、ズッキーニの花など、日本ではあまり口にする機会がないものも、少量から買えるので、思い切って試してみてください。
