A public realm resembling a contemporary art museum in Nicosia, Cyprus: Eleftheria Square｜キプロス、ニコシアに現代美術館のような公共空間が出現：エレフテリア広場

We took a walk in the new Elephteria Square, which was completed last year (2021) in the center of Nicosia. Bridges, stairs, pavements, fountains, planters – everything is curved, making me convinced that it was designed by Zaha Hadid. I later researched and discovered it was!

Like Cyprus’ long, multifaceted history, the design is complex and dynamic – the composition constantly changes as you move through the space. 

It already seems to be a well-used and cherished part of the city – on the pleasant, sunny day that we visited, it was bustling with both citizens and visitors. Please come and take a selfie – it’s very Instagrammable!

ニコシアの中心部に去年（２０２１年）完成した新生エレフテリア広場を散策しました。橋や階段、舗装、噴水に植栽帯、あらゆるものが曲線で型取られていています。ザハ・ハディド氏による設計と聞いて、それも納得。

歩きながら、次々と重なるように現れる景色、どこを見ても似たような構図が二度と現れないところに、キプロスが、その長い歴史の中で内包している多面性を重ね合わせるような感覚を覚えました。

よく晴れた気持ちの良い日で、多くの市民に愛される憩いの場として、完成して間もなく定着したようです。若い人々に混じって、あなたも是非セルフィー撮りに訪れてみてください。
