Review: Hilton Sydney
Leaving Hong Kong behind, we headed for Sydney where it was still late summer. It was an overnight flight, but since I had spent a few nights in Hong Kong, I wasn’t too tired upon arrival at Sydney Airport after a safe seven-hour flight. I had already adjusted to the time difference in Hong Kong, and the temperature in Hong Kong was almost halfway between London and Sydney, so I was able to adapt to Sydney easily.

Room upgrade
This was my second stay at the Hilton Sydney, the last time was in 2019. The lobby and restaurant were the same as before, but the rooms seemed to have been completely renovated in the meantime. I was assigned a suite at check in, which was an upgrade of several levels from the room I had reserved – at that point, I hadn’t realised how amazing the suite would be. I was so surprised when I opened the door; I never expected to stay in such a luxurious room.

The first thing that caught my eye was the living room with a large, comfortable sofa. I wondered for a moment how many people the room could accommodate, but that was probably a silly question. If you are staying in a large group, you can invite everyone over and order room service to have a party!

In a typical hotel layout, you can see the bed right from the entrance, but a suite is different. Here, the bedroom was at the back of the living room. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious, with a jacuzzi bathtub, a separate shower room, and two sinks. There was also a restroom next to the entrance, meaning there are two in total.

The room was on the 34th floor, so the view from the window was great, with the skyscrapers of Sydney’s CBD right in front of me. The Sydney Tower is eye-catching for its height that surpasses all others. Below you can see the Queen Victoria Building with its characteristic central dome.

Executive lounge

I didn’t have much of an appetite, considering how tired I was, so I decided to have a light dinner in the lounge. There was a wide variety of alcohol and snacks, including fruits and cakes, so it was easy to get distracted. I always end up eating too much even though I thought I would eat just a little. Luckily, a window seat was available, so we had dinner while looking at the view outside.

Breakfast
In the morning, we went to the main restaurant for breakfast first, and then wanted to relax in the lounge afterwards if we had time. At Hilton Sydney, breakfast is free for Gold and Diamond members, but if you want to add hot dishes such as eggs, you have to pay an additional fee.

Gym and swimming pool
When walking around Sydney, you often see gyms, and there is a Fitness First in the basement of the Hilton. Guests can also use the gym with members of the public, by completing a simple sign-in procedure at the basement reception. In addition to the 25-meter pool, there is also a sauna and a jacuzzi, which I recommend for changing your mood.
Diamond member benefit
One of the benefits I often use since becoming a higher status member is late check-out. This time, I was kindly accommodated, and I was able to efficiently allocate my sightseeing time in Sydney.

Useful information
Yayoi, a Japanese restaurant located in Galeries, a commercial building right next to the Hilton Sydney, serves authentic Japanese cuisine. After much deliberation, I chose the salmon bowl, which was generously topped with thick-sliced Tasmanian salmon. The fresh and fatty salmon was a masterpiece that rivaled Scottish smoked salmon. At Galleries, I also found Muji and Kinokuniya Bookstore. Kinokuniya Bookstore isn’t in London, so I’m a little jealous of Sydney.
