Review: Conrad London St. James (2024)
I was planning to take an overnight trip somewhere in the UK in June, but I ended up not being able to go as I was too busy. However, I had an American Express offer expiring at the end of the month that I did not want to miss out on, so I decided to quickly have a staycation instead. Just as I did in 2021, I chose to stay at the Conrad London St. James.

Location
As the name of the hotel suggests, it is located very close to St. James’s Park. The Mall, where the carriage procession to welcome the Emperor and Empress of Japan was recently held, runs along the north side of the park from Trafalgar Square to Buckingham Palace.

Check-in and Cocktail Time
The hotel is right in front of St. James’s Park Station on the Circle and District lines of the London Tube, so you won’t get lost even if it’s your first time to visit. After checking in around 6:30 pm, I headed straight for the lounge. I was given sparkling wine on check in, but cocktail time is still one of the highlights of a hotel stay. I slipped in with only 30 minutes left. We toasted with wine and enjoyed various canapés. As I had eaten too much at lunch, I planned to have a light dinner here, and the portion size was just right.

Room

The interior of the guest room is modern and urban, not flashy, and unified with calm colours, so it is relaxing. The bathroom seemed similar to that of the Conrad Tokyo. I had found out in advance that there was a bathtub in the bathroom, so I brought along some Kneipp bath salts that I had recently bought when I went to Berlin. I was able to relax both my body and mind.

Breakfast
The bed was exceptionally comfortable, so I was already satisfied when I woke up, but was also looking forward to a very substantial breakfast. Once seated, we were each able to choose one item from the a la carte menu, just like at the Conrad Tokyo.

While waiting for our ordered omelettes and pancakes, we picked out bread, cheese and other items from the buffet. The breakfast venue is characterised by its maroon walls. The rose-colored chairs and black marble dining tables match well, and are truly a British sense of interior design.

After breakfast, I went to the lounge as usual to relax while eating fruits, but of course, you can have a full breakfast here too – you can choose the eating place depending on your mood.
Executive Lounge
Normally, if I were sightseeing, I would go out straight after breakfast, but I had a much more leisurely start to the day while on staycation. Since I only have a shower at home, I took the opportunity to go back to my room and take a morning bath.

With check-out time fast approaching, I asked about late check out but unfortunately they could not accommodate due to preparations for the next guests. Instead, they issued a key to the lounge for me to relax there. I expressed my gratitude and decided to use the lounge gratefully.

The lounge at the Conrad London was beautifully put together, from the interior to the furnishings and flowers. This enabled me to feel particularly comfortable. Food was not only available at cocktail time: at 2 pm, there was afternoon tea, where you could enjoy tea, sandwiches, and cakes. Needless to say, the lounge was where I spent most of my time during this stay.
Useful information
I thought the Conrad mascot was always a bear, which is familiar in Tokyo and Hong Kong, but here in London it was a dog. Apparently its name is Monty. I asked the concierge and they gave me one.
Unfortunately there is no spa facility, but if you want to exercise, you can use the gym in the basement.
