Getting into the rhythm of Brazilian music at the Montreux Jazz Festival｜モントルージャズフェスティバル ブラジル音楽のリズム感

The main reason I came to Switzerland this time was to go to the Montreux Jazz Festival. Shortly after leaving Geneva Station, the train was gliding along the shore of Lake Geneva. We arrived at Montreux Station in about an hour, after looking out at the lake on our right, the villages and vineyards along the line.

Our first stop was to head to the centre of Montreux to take a commemorative photo with the Freddie Mercury statue. Near the venue, we wandered around the outdoor stalls and took a short break with a beer in hand at a nice-looking shop.

Afterwards, we decided to take a walk along the promenade by the lake. Up close is the clear water of the lake, with the lush blue mountains in the distance; you will be healed by the scenery that is truly Switzerland. We had a swim at a local spot, followed by dinner at a nearby outdoor restaurant.

Tonight’s programme at the Jazz Festival was Brazil’s Roberta Sá and Gilberto Gil. Roberta Sá’s bright and flowing voice had the audience singing along throughout. It was a vibrant show with a sense of unity that can only be experienced at a live concert.

Next up was Gilberto Gil, who had a dignified yet dashing atmosphere as I had imagined. During the performance, he seemed to be having a lot of fun interacting with the many band members. It was a memorable trip to Montreux as I was able to see the masters of Brazilian music up close.

今回スイスにやって来た一番の理由は、念願のモントルー・ジャズフェスティバルに行くことでした。ジュネーブ駅を出てしばらくすると列車はレマン湖畔を滑るように進んで行きます。右手に広がる湖の景色を横目に、沿線の村や葡萄畑を眺めながら約１時間でモントルー駅に到着しました。

まずはモントルー中心部に向かい、フレディー・マーキュリーの像と一緒に記念撮影。会場付近では屋外に所狭しと建てられた屋台の間をぶらぶらしつつ、良さげなお店でビール片手に少し休憩。

その後は湖畔の遊歩道に沿って散歩することにしました。近くを見れば湖の澄んだ水、遠くを見れば青々とした山並みがどこまでも広がり、これぞスイスという景色に癒されます。地元の湖水浴場で水浴びして、近くにあった屋外食堂で夕食としました。

ジャズフェス、この日はブラジルからホベルタ・サーとジルベルト・ジルの出演です。ホベルタ・サーの明るく伸びのある歌声と、それに合わせて歌う聴衆。ライブコンサートならではの一体感で盛り上がりました。

続くジルベルト・ジルは、貫禄を漂わせながらも颯爽とした雰囲気は想像していた通り。演奏中、多くのバンドメンバーとノリ良く掛け合う姿がとても楽しそうでした。ブラジル音楽の巨匠を間近で見ることができ、思い出深いモントルーの旅となりました。
