Review: Hilton Mallorca Galatzo
The hotel I really wanted to stay at in Mallorca was the Hilton Mallorca Galatzo. A few years ago, the previous Hilton withdrew from Mallorca, which was a shame, but thankfully they reopened in another location in 2022.
I have visited several Mediterranean islands so far. In Greece, I have been to Mykonos, Santorini, and other islands in the Cyclades, as well as Cyprus and Malta. I was surprised that Mallorca is much larger than the islands I have been to so far, and that Palma, the centre, is much more urban than I had imagined.
Access
I knew from the map that the hotel is in the southwest of the island, in the Costa de la Calma area, and that there was a highway nearby, but I was surprised when I actually went there.
The highway was a proper highway (I didn’t think there would be such a big highway on the island), and it was just under 25 km from the city centre, taking around 30 minutes to arrive. It probably takes about 45 minutes if you go directly from the airport.
Outdoor Pool and Restaurant
We arrived at the hotel before check-in time. Our room wasn’t ready yet, so we decided to leave our luggage and have lunch at the hotel restaurant. We chose Vista de Rey, a restaurant facing the outdoor adults-only pool on the west side of the resort. The building is open to the terrace and has a layout that lets in a lot of light from outside. The potted plants are not citrus fruits, but the restaurant somehow looks like an orangery.
We returned to the pool here after checking in – the other pool was bustling with families and children jumping in, while this one had a calm, adult atmosphere.
Room
It was time to check in, so we received our keys at the reception desk and headed to our room. We were shown to a room on the upper floor of the building behind the reception desk.
Unfortunately, we weren’t upgraded, but the newly renovated room was comfortable and had a good view, so we liked it instantly.
We opened the window and went out to the balcony to get some fresh air. Although the view is somewhat blocked by the large trees on the premises, you can see the ocean in the distance, and you realise that the hotel is quite high up. These trees provide a pleasant shade even by the poolside, making it very relaxing.
Around the Hotel
Watching the sun slowly go down and spending the end of the day slowly is something you can only do on vacation. I swam in the pool a little, and even without doing much, I started to feel hungry again! I’ve been eating a lot since coming to Spain, so maybe I’m getting too used to it. I could have had dinner in the hotel, but I decided to take a walk to a nearby restaurant.
There was an entrance on the south side of the hotel grounds, so I went out from there. It was quite a steep slope and surprisingly far away, so by the time I arrived at the restaurant I was even hungrier.
The restaurant I went to had an atmosphere that seemed to have regular customers who come to Mallorca every year, and I had a very satisfying dinner of Spanish food made with local ingredients and delicious wine. I could have had a drink at the bar in the hotel afterwards, but on the way back to the hotel, after being full, I climbed that slope again and didn’t feel like drinking.
Breakfast
The next morning, I woke up quite early, so I arrived at the breakfast venue almost at the same time as it started. As I sometimes see in European hotels, sparkling wine was on offer (I think it was cava because it’s Spain).
After not having gone to the bar last night, I thought I could have a little here! I was able to get a seat by the window. Breakfast with a view from the window is exceptional.
Resort Hotel for Long Stays
The hotel is very large, with four main buildings and about eight smaller buildings scattered around. I
n addition to the two outdoor pools, there is an indoor pool, spa, sauna, gym, three tennis courts, a children’s playground, and four restaurants. It is a high-end resort, so it’s the perfect environment for people who like to stay in this type of resort hotel.
There is also a golf course nearby and a golf concierge on site who will make all the arrangements for you. Since you’re on the island, some people will want to go to the beach in the summer. In that case, it is convenient to use the shuttle bus provided by the hotel.
The hotel will take you to the beach called Peguera, which is further west. I only stayed at the Hilton Mallorca Galatzo for one night, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Useful information
I have stayed at many Hilton hotels in Europe, but this one stands out for its size. There are many facilities both indoors and outdoors, and facilities for children are also well-maintained, so it is perfect for families with children. It is also great for people who want to relax in a nice climate.
Please note that if you want to walk around Palma, you will need to travel by car, and the hotel is closed from November to March every year.
Unfortunately, there is no lounge, and breakfast is included for all guests, so there was nothing particularly noteworthy about the benefits for Diamond members.
