Share Green Minamiaoyama｜シェアグリーン南青山

After the National Stadium, we headed to Share Green Minami Aoyama. Turn south at the intersection of Aoyama 1-chome, walk along Kanjo Route 3, and you will arrive at a spacious green space. It’s a direction I’ve never been before and, on entering the site, it felt like I was in Melbourne. 

You enter at the corner of a large plaza, around which are cafes and shops. Unfortunately it was cloudy, but it’s so rare to be in this sort of low-rise environment with a clear expanse of sky in central Tokyo that I felt relaxed. I took a short break while daydreaming about how I would look forward to the weekend if there was a place like this near my house. 

I discovered later that this is a temporary use before the future redevelopment of the site, but I left it thinking that I would like it to last as long as possible.

国立競技場の次に向かったのはシェアグリーン南青山。青山一丁目の交差点を南に曲がり、環状三号線沿いに少し歩くと、緑の多い広々とした空間に辿り着きました。なかなか来たことのない方角で、あまり想像できなかったのですが、敷地に入ってみたらまるでメルボルンにでも来たかのような雰囲気です。

最初、大きな広場がぱっと目の前に入ってきますが、少し見渡すとカフェやお店もあって、辺りを自由に歩き回りながら、気に入った場所で腰を下ろしてみます。生憎の曇り空でしたが、空が開けていて、ゆったりとした気分に。こんな場所が自宅付近にあったら週末が楽しみだろうなぁ、などと少し空想しながら、しばし休憩。

後で調べてみたら、敷地の将来開発に向けた暫定利活用事業とのこと。期間限定の施設らしいのですが、是非できるだけ長く続いてほしいなぁと思いながら後にしました。
