Impressed by real cashmere products in main store of ‘Johnstons of Elgin’｜ ジョンストンズ・オブ・エルガン本店で本物のカシミア製品の手触りに感動

The area of the Spey River Basin is called Speyside, well known to whisky lovers for the number of distilleries here. After leaving the Macallan Distillery, we headed for the town of Elgin. Although there are many attractive whisky distilleries in this area, this time we decided to go to Johnstons. Wool is a local industry unique to Scotland. There is a factory here and you can take a tour, so I participated in the second factory tour today after the whisky.
High-quality cashmere is soft to the touch and has a completely different warmth. With our tour guide’s detailed explanation of the process, from the raw materials to the finished product, I could deepen my understanding and affection for quality.
There is a store right next to the factory, and there are so many items, from standard mufflers, to stoles that wrap around the body, to sweaters and gloves, to blankets, that it’s hard to choose. Check the texture, match the colour tone, and take your time to find your favourite item.
スペイ川流域に広がるスペイサイドと言われる地域は、ウイスキー好きには言わずも知れた、ウイスキー蒸溜所の集積地。マッカラン蒸溜所を後にして向かったのは、エルガンという町です。ここで作られるウイスキーも、スペイサイド産ウイスキーに数えられ、魅力的な蒸溜所がたくさんあるのですが、今回の行き先はジョンストンズ。羊毛などを使った毛織物は、スコットランドならではの地場産業です。ここは工場があって内部も見せてもらえるということで、工場見学に参加しました。
高品質のカシミアは、肌触りが優しく、温かさが全く違うのですが、原料から製品に仕上がるまでの過程を説明してもらうことで、品質への理解と愛着が深まります。
工場のすぐ隣には店舗もあり、定番のマフラーから、体を包み込めるストール、セーターや手袋、ブランケットまで本当に数えきれないくらい多くの品物があるので、目移りしてしまいます。手触りを確認したり、色調を合わせてみたり、時間をかけて是非、お気に入りの一品を見つけてください。
