Bormio Ski Resort
After getting off the bus, we walked through Bormio’s old town to get to the hotel. It is a quaint town, with cobblestone-paved streets and old buildings on either side, retaining an appearance from the Middle Ages. The snow that fell a long time ago remained hardened in some places, but there wasn’t as much snow in the town as I had expected.

Considering the convenience of eating and drinking, we chose a hotel close to the centre of town (although, surprisingly for this blog, it’s not a Hilton as there are none in Bormio!). The ski resort starts at Bormio 2000, which can be reached from the old town via a cable car that ascends 800 metres.

When you get off the cable car, the ski slopes are right in front of you. The glare of the sunlight reflecting off the snow and the coldness of the air on my cheeks awakened feelings I had almost forgotten.

From here, you can take a lift to Bormio 3000, which is another 1000 metres higher, but there was also a direct cable car, so I decided to try that out. The cable car reached the summit station just above the treeline where the snow-covered slopes are even steeper. The mountain range of the Alps that extends far to the north is majestic and beautiful, and you will forget the cold and be enchanted looking at the view for a while.

The observation restaurant directly connected to the station was crowded with skiers who had come to eat and take a break while admiring this spectacular view. We thought we might just have a beer or two, but we remembered that it was 3000 metres above sea level and that we would be skiing down a 1000 metre altitude difference from here, so we decided against it. Even if you don’t ski or snowboard, you can take the cable car and go back and forth from Bormio, so I think it would be good to visit whenever the weather is nice and experience this scenery firsthand.

Useful information
This time, I decided to rent ski equipment at the ski resort instead of in town, which was a good decision as it made going to and from skiing much easier. If you want to go not only to Bormio but also to the nearby ski resort of Santa Catarina, it may be better to rent from a rental shop in town. The bus that goes around the ski resorts is located near the cable car station, so I think it’s easy to travel between the ski resorts.
